Sony is dominating the various global spheres of gaming news today as it recently announced major updates to three of its biggest platforms, including the PS4 Remote Play app. In addition to the rollout of a massive firmware update to both its PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles, the free PlayStation App is also on the receiving end of a remarkable update. As confirmed by Sony, users on the App will now be able to create or join either open or closed parties. Along with the functionalities of the update, which will be implemented gradually across the global market, the App will also receive a new interface that hopes to bridge the visual gap between it and the console experience.
In other news, the Remote Play Android and iOS utility, free to download on either platform and emulators, is also receiving a new update. Users on PS Remote Play will now be able to toggle dark mode within the App. While a smaller update than those aforementioned, Sony is following the general trend in Android and iOS App and utility development where ‘dark mode’ is added to as many apps and utilities as possible. This is in an attempt to keep the user experience as uniform as possible, from users’ home screens to their favorite apps, should they have dark mode enabled in their global device settings. Even though this may seem like an inconsequential change to some, the benefits to users who use the dark mode utility will no doubt be overjoyed.
Dark mode isn’t the only new feature to come to PS4 Remote Play, though, following yet another widespread Android and iOS trend, new languages are inbound to the App’s screen reader utility. Users will now be able to experience screen reading in Thai, Swedish, Finnish, Turkish, Greek, Chinese (both simplified and traditional dialects), and Portuguese (both dialects from Brazil and Portugal itself).
It’s certainly pleasant to see Sony and PlayStation keep all of their offerings up to date and in ways that positively impact the users’ experiences of its utilities.
